Lightweight jackets are perfect for any season. Learn how to take one commercial jacket pattern and make several finished jackets, each with a different look. Ashley Hough will show you all the supplies you will need; from the sewing machine to markings pens and everything in between.
You will have the opportunity to learn it all, from how to take the correct body measurements and select the best pattern size to transitioning sections between sizes, which is helpful if all your measurements don’t fit into one category on a commercial pattern. You will learn different alterations you can make to the pattern pieces to change up the style of a jacket
including:
adding different collars
making large cuffs to show off fun lining fabrics
changing from a buttoned front to a zippered front
placing the zipper on an angle
You’ll get to sew all the pieces you made changes to and how to utilize some of the existing pattern markings to make things a little easier.
In addition Ashley will walk you through how to make other changes that fit your personal preference, like an easy way to make front pockets larger. You will then learn how to put it all together from start to finish including laying out fabric, understanding pattern markings, the easiest order to assemble the jacket, how to sew the tricky parts like sleeve and how to add all the final finishing touches. You will even get the chance to learn tips on how to sew with bulky or difficult fabric. Also included is a PDF shopping guide listing the tools and supplies needed along with a Class Resource with specific instructions to customize your next jacket project.

Your Instructor
Ashley Hough
Ashley has sewn for years. Her mother taught her at a very young age. When first starting out, she stuck to mastering commercial patterns before venturing into creating her own. Her patterns have been featured in Sew News, Sew It All, and she has even been on Sew It All TV.
Quilting is somewhat new to Ashley, but she dove in head first – coming up with an original design for her first quilt that included curved seams and hand appliqué! She was even lucky enough to have it featured in one of Quilty’s "This is My Quilt" episodes.
Ashley loves all things crafty, from sewing to knitting, crochet to quilting, and everything in between. When she isn’t working on a new project or learning a different technique she loves teaching her passion to others.
