How to Make a Ring Sling to Carry a Baby
Stacy GrissomDescription
Supplies
Before you learn how to make a ring sling, it is important to know the best material to use when constructing this project. Since the fabric and rings will be supporting the weight of your baby, you want to make sure it is a tighter-weave fabric that will stand up to wear and tear. Stacy shares several different types of fabrics that she used for her ring slings. She also shares what type of ring is best to use as well as where you can find them.
Construction
Once you have determined what fabric you are going to use, it’s time to learn how to make a ring sling. Stacy shares how she determines how much fabric to use based on the height of the person it is being made for. She then explains how wide to make the ring sling. Once the fabric has been cut, she shows how to finish the edges. Along both long edges and one short edge, Stacy does a double fold hem. She demonstrates how to do this as well as shows how to make mitered corners for a nice finished look. After the three edges have been hemmed, Stacy shows how to make pleats along the remaining raw edge. This raw edge is then inserted into the ring and stitched to hold the ring securely in place.
Finishing
After the ring is stitched in place, the ring sling is complete. Stacy shows how to insert the fabric into the ring, how to adjust the ring sling, and how to wear it. While this project is great for allowing you to carry around your little one, there are times where other great sewing projects will come in handy.
