How to Thread a Needle with Ease

Duration:   4  mins

Description

No matter how good your vision is, threading a needle can still be difficult. ZJ Humbach shows you how to thread a needle with ease using different types of needle threaders. A basic wire threader, included in most sewing kits, as well as a floss threader allows you to slip the thread through a large loop rather than the small eye of the needle. ZJ Humbach’s favorite threader, soon to be yours too, is a larger threader, sometimes referred to as a “desk” threader that lets you thread a needle with the simple push of a lever!

Needle threaders can come in a variety of sizes, from thick to thin, to accommodate whatever your project may be. Thinner wire threaders are great for basic hand sewing and embroidery thread, but if you’re using something heavier like yarn, consider a floss threader or a thicker wire threader. Threaders can even be found with multiple tools in one, sure to fit any media and any size needle eye you may be working with.

I want to say how much I appreciated the video on how to thread the needle with the new fangled gadgets there are!!

I find one of the most frustrating parts of sewing is one of the simplest things we have to do. And that's threading a needle. Whether it's late at night when my eyes are tired, or if I'm using black thread. And especially if I'm using a clear thread such as monopoly sometimes threading that needle can just be aggravating. So today I'd like to show you some tools that'll make that job a little bit easier. The first is this desk model and it's just a wonderful little gem. It has a cutter on it. It has a slot for the needle. And then there's a slot here for the thread and I'll show you how this works. You take your needle and it's going go in upside down and you want to take the eye of your needle and have it facing away from the little handle here from the lever. Then you take your thread and you put it into the thread slot and it will kind of click in slightly. You can feel it. And then all you do is press your lever. You can see the action as it went. And when you pull it out right here that needle is threaded. Okay? So I'll pull it through and then I can go right ahead and cut my thread and I'm ready to go. Just that simple. That's probably my most favorite needle threader of all. Another one is this little gem that comes in your travel sewing kits. It's where you usually find them. And you can see that it's kind of a diamond shape thin wire at the bottom there and what you do here, and this is the most difficult part is you put that through your needle eye then you take your thread since I've got my cutter here, I'm going to use it. And now, instead of trying to get it through the eye, you have that bigger area of the threader to put your thread through, pull it through a ways, hold onto it and just simply slip your needle on and pull the thread or off. And once again, you're ready to go. Very, very simple. Another one that has actually become a go-to for me is found in the dental department of your local drug store and it's floss threaders. They come in a little package and you get, Oh, I don't know. A dozen or dozen of them in the package. And this one similar concept. You're going to thread the needle hole. We're going to take some thread. I'm going to put our thread through that nice big hole that you can't miss pull it through a little, hold on to your thread, pull the threader through the needle eye, slip the needle eye onto the thread. And in this case that got a little too much for the tail. And as you can see you're threaded. Any of these three works wonderfully. One of the nice things I like about this one is if your machine doesn't have a needle threader this is wonderful for going through the eye of the needle. Put your thread in and pull it right through your sewing machine needle. It works wonderfully well for that. So I hope you'll try these. And I hope you find as I have that this is a much easier way to thread a needle.
