Description

While most ironing boards that can be purchased at either fabric and craft stores or big box stores are all fairly similar and work well, there are several products that can be used to improve them. ZJ Humbach shows several of these products as well as which are her favorite to use and why.

Ironing Board Improvements

The first product that ZJ recommends using to improve your ironing board is a new ironing board cover. She shares what her favorite brand is and explains some of the features that it has that makes it a great cover. One of those features is that you can not burn or accidentally singe your fabric while pressing using this ironing board cover. This is because of what the cover is made from, which is a material that is designed to reflect some of the heat from the iron as opposed to absorbing it.

Having this material in your ironing board cover also means that you can iron and press your fabrics on a lower heat setting and still get a good, crisp press. Another feature that ZJ likes about this ironing board cover is the amount of padding it has. She explains how the additional padding can make ironing over and around buttons on a shirt much easier.

Another product that can be a helpful sewing tool and supply is an ironing board cover fastener. This fastener is a small length of elastic with clips on either end that help to tightly secure your cover onto your board. Having a flat cover on your ironing board with no puckers can make your ironing and pressing much easier. Hello there. Would you recommend miracle ironing board fabric for making tailor hams? Will the saw dust stay inside? Or is the wool still best option for a tailor ham? Thank you.

<strong> Ticket 21551 Where can the cover in the video be purchased? Amazon has the “new, improved “ version with a measuring grid, but there is no mention of it being scorch proof.

<strong> Ticket 21446 I cannot find this cover online. The new improved version with pre-marked measuring grids is available, but it is 100% cotton and the description doesn’t say anything about being scorch-less. Anyone know where to find the one in this video?

Where can I find the cover?

Every ironing board can use improving. And I've got a couple of products here today that I think we'll do just that for you. A few years ago, I discovered this cover it's called the miracle cover and it's by a company called Measurematic. No I don't get them complimentary, I'm not a stock owner, I'm just a very pleased customer, and I am probably on about my fourth or fifth reorder. That's how committed I am to this particular cover, I'm a professional long-arm quilter and my iron is one of my major tools. And so, the reason I like this cover so much is I cannot burn something on my ironing board. This cover will not burn. It's designed to reflect heat. It's a I can't tell you exactly what it's made from, but it's a similar material to what they used on the space shuttle with the ceramic infused into the fibers to reflect heat. And so this makes it so that because the heat is reflected, I can iron a wide variety of fabrics at a lower heat, So there's less chance of scorching or burning my fabrics. It also saves energy. I'm not having to keep the iron cranked all the way to the high cotton or linen settings, and again, it keeps my room a little cooler which is nice. It can be used with a steam iron or a dry iron, and they come in every size imaginable. So if you have a big board, or some other cover or size, rather, these are great. This is mine. I have a, it's not a big board but it's still a fairly wide board. And as you can see, I've got plenty of room and plenty of length here. It comes with a pad and it's a decent pad so that when you're pressing like when I press my husband's shirts, the buttons kind of sink down into it, and it's very easy for the iron to glide over the buttons rather than getting caught on them. And this is a very, very durable fabric. It is just a super, super ironing board cover. I have been very, very pleased with it. And despite the extra cushioning in here it's still allows a good air flow up through your ironing board, so that your items dry very quickly, if you're using steam. Now, along with the miracle ironing board cover, I have found one of my biggest frustrations with ironing board covers, especially with my larger board is getting it tight enough underneath. And even though I tie it and tighten it, it still sags, And I get all that puckering around the edges of the board. Not too long ago, I discovered these ironing board cover fasteners there at the store, thereby drifts, and they are literally pieces of elastic with two clips on the end. They're very similar to a shirt garter. If you've ever seen those, those of us that had been in the military, used them to keep our shirts tucked in and our socks pulled up. You also see them sometimes all for holding your fitted sheets on especially on the deeper pocket sheets. So this stretches, stretches quite a bit. The clip opens you put it on one end of your cover is stretching. You put it on the other end of the cover and your ironing board will definitely stay in place. If for some reason you have a really wide board and this isn't going to stretch enough. You can just very gently there's enough room here that you can remove the stitches get a larger piece of elastic, thread it through stitch it down, and you're good to go. You've repurposed it into just a little bit bigger size but in the past, I've tried putting clips on there. I have, you know, like you use those big black paper clips. I've tried those, I've tried everything I can think of and everything just popped off. These stay in place. My cover is nice and tight. I'm a happy camper. So don't hesitate to enhance your ironing board and make improvements to it because it certainly will make the time you spend in your sewing studio or quilting studio, a lot more pleasant.
