Quick Tips: Prepping Sashiko Thread

National Sewing Circle Editors
Duration:   1 mins

Description

Avoid tangles in your Sashiko embroidery thread with this quick tip from Mary Beth Temple. When completing Sashiko embroidery and using the embroidery thread, the thread will often become tangled, making your embroidery frustrating and difficult. By uncoiling the embroidery thread into one large loop and cutting it opposite the knot, you create embroidery thread strands the perfect size for using, and the knot holds the remaining embroidery thread flat to avoid tangles.

Hi, I'm Mary Beth Temple and I do a lot of Sashiko embroidery. I have learned the best way to prep the thread without getting any tangles or making any mess is to take it out of its paper sleeve, unfold it until you get one big circle. Now, you want to keep looking until you find the knot. Here's the knot, you want to cut exactly opposite from the knot by cutting on the opposite side of the knot. Not only do you have a strand that is the perfect length to stitch, but you can also pull one strand out and the knot will keep the other strands laying flat and keep them from getting tangled.
