Description

When attaching buttons using your sewing machine, a common household item can help keep buttons perfectly placed with no fuss. Learn how to use transparent tape to hold buttons in place when machine sewing.

Nicki LaFoille discusses the common ways to attach buttons by machine and their failings. By using transparent tape to tape the button to the fabric at the placement mark, the button stays exactly in place while the presser foot lever is lowered, even if the button is large, domed, or otherwise shaped.

After selecting the button stitch, or setting up your machine with a zigzag stitch and lowering the feed dogs, you are ready to machine stitch the button on. When the stitch is complete, the tape is perforated and can simply be peeled away.
