Nicki discusses the necessary pattern pieces to cut out for the project, and what suitable fabric to use. In addition to the pattern pieces, you will need a strap piece measuring 4”x14”. Make the strap longer or shorter if desired, but keep the 4” width the same, for fitting in the lobster claw swivel clasp attachments.

Transfer the pattern markings from the pattern onto the fabric by clipping into the seam allowances at the notches. Also clip into the seam allowances at the lower center point of the main body pieces.

In addition to fabric, you will need two 1 ¼”-wide rectangle lobster claw swivel clips such as these, and ½” diameter grommets such as these.

Begin by stitching the outer gusset pieces together along the straight edge. Then Nicki demonstrates how to attach the gusset to the main body pieces. Repeat to create the lining, leaving an opening along the lower edge for turning right side out.

Fuse a small piece of interfacing onto the gusset upper edge, to stabilize the fabric for supporting the grommet. Nicki demonstrates how to attach the lining and outer bag along the upper edges, clip the seam allowances to allow for smooth curves, and press.

Nicki gives tips to help you achieve professional looking topstitching along the upper edge. You will also learn how to insert a grommet using a grommet setting tool.

The last step is to create the bag strap. Nicki demonstrates how to easily attach the lobster claw swivel clasps to each strap end, and how to clip them onto the bag grommets.
